Front panel serial port connector
This connector is an 8 pin mini-DIN connector, similar to the serial port connectors found
on Macintosh computers. Unlike the Macintosh, however, it uses RS-232 levels (the Mac
uses RS-422).
The pin-out is as follows:
No. | Name Function |
1 | RTS Request to send (output) |
2 | CTS Clear to send (input) |
3 | TXD Transmit data (output) |
4 | GND Ground |
5 | RXD Receive data (input) |
6 | (not used) |
7 | (not used) |
8 | (not used) |
9 | (not used) |
Here is what the connector looks like, seen from the front, looking into the unit:
A suitable cable to connect to a notebook PC is wired as follows:
PC (9-way D female) Soundweb box (8-way mini-DIN)
Signal name | Pin number | Signal name | Pin number |
GND | 5 | GND | 4 |
TXD | 3 | RXD | 5 |
RXD | 2 | TXD | 3 |
RTS | 7 | CTS | 2 |
CTS | 8 | RTS | 1 |
Rear panel serial port connector
This connector is a male 9-way D; its pinout is identical to that used by a standard PC
serial port, namely as follows:
No. | Name | Function |
1 | DCD | Data carrier detect (input) |
2 | RXD | Receive data (input) |
3 | TXD | Transmit data (output) |
4 | DTR | Data terminal ready (output) |
5 | GND | Ground |
6 | DSR | Dataset ready (input) |
7 | RTS | Request to send (output) |
8 | CTS | Clear to send (input) |
9 | | (not used) |
